Cars in Germany's City Discovered Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Police reported they were contacted by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Officers then discovered many other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.

Police state early analysis suggest the liquid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they added.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.

A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism left him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.

"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
